An Ecuadorian prison was the scene of a deadly riot involving rival inmate gangs, Los Lobos and Sao Box. The violence, which included gunfire and explosions, resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals and injuries to others. During the unrest, a prison guard was killed, and police officers were abducted. A number of inmates used the opportunity to escape the facility. Local authorities immediately initiated a search and recapture operation.
