China’s top BRICS envoy, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, took part in the inaugural 2026 BRICS Sherpa meeting hosted in New Delhi. This assembly kicks off the year’s diplomatic calendar with India leading the group.
Ma Zhaoxu outlined President Xi Jinping’s landmark ideas on fostering high-quality Greater BRICS partnerships. Central to this is the five-pronged framework promoting peace, cutting-edge innovation, sustainable green development, international justice, and vibrant people-to-people ties, providing a clear roadmap for BRICS evolution.
Reaffirming China’s dedication, Ma pledged joint action with India and all members to stick to core principles, intensify real-world cooperation, streamline mechanisms, enhance multilateral alignment, protect fairness in global affairs, and drive ongoing expansion of Greater BRICS initiatives.
Participants exchanged views on cooperation focus areas and scheduled events, formally initiating groundwork for the 18th BRICS leaders’ summit.
The Delhi meet reflects BRICS’ growing clout in shaping global governance. Amid rising tensions and economic headwinds, it promises deeper integration and collaborative strategies for shared prosperity.
