A cutting-edge micro drone, resembling a mosquito in size, has been created by Chinese researchers, opening new avenues in military technology. The drone was developed at the robotics laboratory of the National University of Defence Technology (NUDT) in Hunan province. These tiny drones have the potential to revolutionize multiple industries and applications due to their unique characteristics. The prototype, displayed on CCTV’s military channel, features flapping wings and legs, specifically designed for stealth military actions. During the demonstration, a student from NUDT highlighted the drone’s suitability for reconnaissance and special battlefield missions. The drone, controlled via smartphone, is around 1.3 centimeters long and possesses delicate wing structures. These microdrones offer considerable advantages in covert military operations, facilitating surveillance and reconnaissance with a low risk of detection. Furthermore, they can be utilized in search and rescue operations and environmental monitoring. Although currently limited by payload capacity and flight time, upcoming improvements in battery life, sensor technology, and artificial intelligence are poised to significantly enhance the capabilities of microdrones.
