The Sumud flotilla, comprised of social activists, is approaching Gaza with the intent to break the blockade. The flotilla, consisting of multiple ships carrying civilians, Italian parliamentarians, and members of the European Parliament, is close to the Gaza coast. Israel had previously threatened to prevent the flotilla from reaching Gaza. Italy and Spain had deployed naval ships. However, Italy’s warship has withdrawn its support. The Italian Ministry of Defence stated that the Italian navy would cease its monitoring of the international flotilla. The ministry specified that the warship’s operations would cease upon the flotilla’s approach to within 150 nautical miles (278 km) of the coast. The warship is set to issue two warnings to the activists, with the second warning anticipated around 00:00 GMT, coinciding with the flotilla’s expected arrival within the designated zone.
