As the United States increases H-1B work visa fees and proposes stricter regulations, Germany is actively recruiting skilled workers from India. The German Ambassador to India publicized the country’s stable immigration policies and the many job openings in IT, management, science, and technology for Indian citizens. A post on X with a direct link to job listings accompanied the announcement. These developments come as the U.S. administration, led by President Donald Trump, has proposed modifications to the H-1B visa selection process. This includes a weighted system that prioritizes higher-skilled and higher-paid foreign workers. The annual cap of 85,000 visas will remain in place, with employers offering higher salaries receiving preferential treatment if applications exceed the limit. A considerable fee for employers has been introduced, excluding those already holding H-1B visas or renewals. These new selection rules are in the proposal phase and could be implemented for the 2026 lottery registration. The H-1B program allows for 65,000 visas each year for specialized temporary foreign workers and an extra 20,000 visas for advanced degree holders. Trump attempted a similar reform during his previous term in office, but it was not completed. Germany’s initiative to attract Indian talent arises as the U.S. attempts to tighten its immigration rules.
