The Nepali government has decided to lift its prohibition on social media applications after experiencing significant public demonstrations, primarily led by Gen Z. These protests regrettably culminated in violent clashes with the police. Prithvi Subba Gurung, the Minister for Communications and Information Technology, declared the decision to lift the ban. After an emergency cabinet meeting, Gurung appealed to the Gen Z protesters to cease their activities. Previously, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli had been unwilling to lift the ban as protests grew. Subsequently, PM Oli emphasized the government’s aim to foster the responsible use of social media.
