Historic India-Algeria Defense Pact Signed at Joint Meet
1 min readDefense collaboration between India and Algeria took a giant leap with the first Joint Commission session on May 5 in New Delhi, where both agreed to amplify cooperation in training, drills, medical aid, and industrial ventures. This pact sets the stage for sustained military partnership.
A key outcome was the inking of ‘Rules of Procedure,’ a vital tool for tracking and executing joint initiatives. It will act as the operational compass for upcoming meetings and activities, promoting efficiency and accountability.
Jointly presided over by Indian Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad and Algerian Major General Qaid Nour Eddine, the forum drew top brass from India’s defense ecosystem, including army, navy, air force, IDSHQ, production departments, DRDO, medical corps, and foreign affairs.
Building on the 2024 MoU, high-stakes visits have catalyzed growth. The current Algerian delegation’s engagements, starting with a solemn tribute at the War Memorial, extend to defense sector interactions, reinforcing bonds.
This follows General Upendra Dwivedi’s impactful Algeria visit last year, which advanced army ties, security discussions, and business prospects. Analysts view these exchanges as foundational for long-term alliances, empowering both nations against shared challenges and unlocking defense innovation potentials.
