Preparations are in high gear in Malaysia for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day official sojourn from February 7 to 8, with the Indian community brimming with enthusiasm. Hosted by PM Anwar Ibrahim, the visit aims to deepen collaboration in trade, finance, defense, and cultural spheres, building on robust bilateral trade nearing $20 billion last fiscal year.
Ramesh Kodammal of the ASEAN India Economic Council captured the mood: ‘People are ecstatic to welcome PM Modi after a long wait. This could catapult our relations skyward.’ He pointed to expanding India-ASEAN trade links as a key booster.
Expatriates shared personal stories of anticipation. One veteran attendee of Modi’s 2014 visit said, ‘Seeing him again in a country with such a massive Indian population reaffirms his focus on our bonds.’
Cultural pride is on display too. ‘We’re overjoyed; it’s our big stage,’ noted a member from the Malaysia Bharatanatyam Dance Association, detailing a multi-style fusion performance.
Over 800 artists are fine-tuning acts blending traditional Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and modern ballet. ‘Weeks of rehearsal for our brief yet stunning fusion—fingers crossed PM Modi loves it,’ a performer said smilingly.
Despite challenges, dedication shines: ‘My high schoolers juggle studies and practice flawlessly,’ a choreographer revealed.
Summit-level dialogues with Anwar Ibrahim will prioritize economic and strategic enhancements. This visit not only celebrates shared heritage through dazzling performances but also paves the way for enduring India-Malaysia synergy in a dynamic global landscape.
