India’s long-term pursuit of a permanent seat on the UN Security Council has received a boost with support from Bhutan and the BRICS nations. Bhutan’s Prime Minister, speaking at the 80th UNGA session, advocated for UNSC reforms, including permanent membership for India and Japan. This stance mirrors the support expressed during the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, where China and Russia also acknowledged India and Brazil’s aspirations for a more significant role in the UNSC. India has long pushed for reforms and increased participation from Asian and African countries, facing obstacles due to opposition.
