Iran arrests one other Swedish citizen on espionage cost

The assertion accused Sweden of proxy spying for Israel. There was no speedy response from Sweden. This is the second Swedish citizen Iran arrested in latest months.

In May, Sweden confirmed that Iran arrested a Swedish citizen at a tense time for ties between Stockholm and Tehran.

Earlier in July, Iran recalled its ambassador from Sweden after a Swedish court docket sentenced Iranian citizen Hamid Noury to life in jail for committing conflict crimes and homicide through the Iran-Iraq conflict within the Nineteen Eighties. Noury, 61, was arrested in November 2019 when he arrived in Stockholm on a vacationer journey.

Various Europeans have been detained in Iran in latest months, together with a Swedish vacationer, two French residents, a Polish scientist and others.

The detentions aroused issues that Iran hoped to leverage the prisoners as bargaining chips to strain the United States and European nations to grant the sanctions reduction it obtained beneath its tattered 2015 nuclear accord.
