Authorities in Mexico, supported by intelligence from the United States and Israel, have successfully foiled a suspected Iranian plot to assassinate Israel’s ambassador, Einat Kranz Neiger. Officials identified the conspiracy as being linked to Iran’s Quds Force, an arm of the IRGC, and allegedly coordinated by officer Hasan Izadi, also known as Masood Rahnema, from Iran’s embassy in Venezuela. The operation was reportedly neutralized before it could be carried out. A US official described the plot as contained and part of a consistent pattern of Iran’s alleged international targeting. Israel’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement expressing gratitude to Mexico for thwarting the alleged terrorist network and committed to ongoing collaboration against Iranian threats. The US State Department condemned Iran’s alleged ‘abhorrent international plots’ and reaffirmed its commitment to partner nations. In a contrasting announcement, Mexico’s foreign and security ministries reported no official information about the attempted attack but confirmed their engagement in security cooperation within their national sovereignty. The incident highlights perceived Iranian efforts to expand covert operations in Latin America, with Venezuela being a focal point.
