Funded by a $1 million grant for SMEs – announced by Jaishankar in 2025 – the initiative supplied critical machinery from India. At the unveiling, he positioned it as evidence of India’s solidarity with Suriname and Global South nations.
‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is more than words; it’s demonstrated through projects like this,’ Jaishankar affirmed. He pledged India’s enduring support for Suriname’s journey to development and affluence.
Suriname’s Foreign Minister Melvin Bouva and Agriculture Minister Nike Noersalim graced the occasion. Jaishankar stressed its role in promoting value addition and independence, solidifying bilateral development partnerships.
He also conferred with National Assembly President Michael Ashwin Adhin, exchanging views on multi-sector collaboration and democratic parliamentary ties. The day featured a visit to Lala Rookh Museum, paying tribute to the Girmitiya pioneers from India.
Jaishankar shared on X: ‘The grit of Girmitiya forebears fuels inspiration for future generations and our friendship’s bedrock.’ This development underscores India’s diplomatic footprint in nurturing lasting alliances.
