Republic of Lithuania has filed a plea in search of intervention within the ongoing Ukraine-Russian Federation proceedings earlier than the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

The plea was moved by Lithuania earlier than the ICJ in search of to intervene within the courtroom’s proceedings invoking Article 63 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice.

Article 63 of the ICJ Statute says that when a building of a conference is in query earlier than the Court, which might be equally binding on all States occasion to that conference, then every of those States has a proper to intervene within the proceedings.

Lithuania has acknowledged in its declaration for intervention that “Lithuania shares with all other contracting parties to the Genocide Convention a common interest in ensuring that the construction of its provisions — which contain obligations erga omnes partes (towards all) — are properly interpreted so as to avoid abusive interpretations and misuses of the Genocide Convention, whether in the present case or in the future.”
