The temporary government of Nepal has restricted former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and other prominent figures from traveling abroad. The individuals facing travel bans include former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, former Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi, ex-National Investigation Department head Hutraj Thapa, and former Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabi Rizal. This action comes as a three-member committee investigates the protests that occurred in Nepal on September 8 and 9.
The investigation committee is headed by Gauri Bahadur Karki, a former Supreme Court judge, and includes former police officer Bigyan Ran Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari. The committee is mandated to deliver its report within three months. The violent protests in Nepal led to 72 deaths, including three police officers, prompting K.P. Sharma Oli’s resignation.
