The selection of an interim Prime Minister in Nepal has brought forth Harka Raj Rai, also known as Harka Sampang, as a potential candidate. The independent mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City now has the backing of a group of Gen-Z protesters. This comes after Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah and retired Chief Justice Sushila Karki were initially considered. Sampang’s popularity is due to his commitment to public service, rejecting VIP privileges. He prefers to interact directly with the public. Before entering politics, Sampang worked in Afghanistan and returned to Nepal with the aim of improving Dharan. His efforts on local issues have garnered support. Sampang has criticized Balendra Shah for not engaging in the street protests. This conflict was further fueled after the Nepal Army’s request for a clear candidate to lead the country.
