New PM Wickremesinghe vows to uplift Sri Lanka’s economic system, hopes to strengthen ties with India

Sri Lanka’s new prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Thursday vowed to work on uplifting the island nation’s economic system, including that he hopes to strengthen ties with India throughout his tenure.

Shortly after being appointed as Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe on Thursday stated he has taken up the problem of uplifting the island nation’s crisis-ridden economic system and added that ties with India will get a lot better below his authorities.

Wickremesinghe, who’s the chief of the United National Party (UNP), was sworn in because the prime minister by Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo right this moment. He had beforehand served because the Sri Lankan prime minister on 5 events.

“I have taken on a challenge of uplifting the economy and I must fulfill it,” Wickremesinghe advised reporters.

Answering a query on India-Sri Lanka ties after his appointment, he stated, “It will become much better.”

“They should stay. We want them to stay. If they want to talk, yes,” Wickremesinghe when requested concerning the protesters.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo reiterated the nation’s dedication to the individuals of Sri Lanka after Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in because the prime minister.

“India’s commitment to the people of Sri Lanka will continue,” it added.

Mahinda Rajapaksa stepped down because the prime minister on Monday, following violent incidents reported between pro-government teams and anti-government protesters.
