Pak PM’s son Hamza Sharif takes oath as Punjab CM after dramatic re-election

Hamza Shehbaz, the son of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Saturday took oath because the chief minister of Punjab province, a day after he was re-elected to the publish by simply three votes amidst excessive drama when the deputy speaker rejected 10 essential votes of his rival candidate.

Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman administered the oath to Hamza, 47. The oath-taking ceremony was held on the Governor House in Punjab.

The run-off election for the publish of Punjab chief minister was held within the Punjab Assembly on Friday, in step with the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

In the 368-member Punjab Assembly, Hamza’s get together Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) obtained 179 votes, whereas Elahi’s get together garnered 176 votes.

Ten votes of Elahi’s PML-Q weren’t counted on the pretext that they’d violated the orders of their get together chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

Mazari mentioned that as get together chief Hussain’s instruction to PML-Q members to vote for Hamza as a substitute of Elahi held better sway.

“I give a ruling to reject 10 votes of PML-Q as its chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has written me a letter declaring that his party lawmakers should not vote for the PTI-PMLQ candidate. I had spoken to Shujaat by phone and he confirmed that it is his letter,” Mazari mentioned, including that Hamza had retained the spot of Punjab province Chief Minister by three votes.

The PTI-PMLQ lawmakers protested the ruling of the deputy speaker.

It is the second time that Hamza beat Elahi within the contest for the Punjab Chief Minister. The final time he had secured victory on April 16, his oath-taking had been delayed for days with then then-governor, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, refusing to manage the oath to him.

Eventually, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered the oath to him on April 30, following the Lahore High Court’s directives.

Following Mazari’s resolution to ignore the ten votes of PML-Q members — a transfer that allowed Hamza to retain his publish because the chief minister of Punjab — PTI mentioned that it might method the Supreme Court to problem the choice.

Elahi mentioned he would problem this resolution within the Supreme Court because the deputy speaker violated the court docket’s order.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) get together chairman Khan had warned that if the state equipment used to steal public mandate it should lead the nation to a Sri Lanka-like state of affairs.
