Pakistan to skip SCO movie competition in Mumbai, confirms Centre

The SCO movie competition is slated to start from January 27 and can be organised till January 30 by the I&B Ministry.

By Sumit Kumar Singh: There isn’t any participation from Pakistan in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) movie competition being organised underneath India’s presidency in Mumbai, Information and Broadcasting Ministry acknowledged on Monday.

The movie competition is slated to start from January 27 and can be organised till January 30 by the I&B Ministry. The occasion is being performed by the National Film Development Corporation, a public sector enterprise of the ministry.

The opening ceremony can be held at Jamshed Bhabha Theatre in Nariman Point’s NCPA.

I&B Ministry Additional Secretary Neerja Sekhar stated, “The SCO Film Festival aims to build cinematic partnerships and act as a bridge between the cultures of various countries in the SCO. It will also create synergies in the film fraternity of SCO members by way of collective cinematic experience.”

“The films being showcased at the SCO Film Festival, brought by the SCO states, will allow spectators to experience different cultures and the films will be a window for people from the SCO countries to know each other better,” the officer stated.

SCO FILM FESTIVAL TO BEGIN IN MUMBAI

The movie competition has been curated to showcase movies of the SCO nations within the competitors and non-competition screenings. In addition to the movie screenings, the competition can have grasp courses, in-conversation classes, nation and state pavilions, photograph and poster exhibitions, and handicraft stalls, amongst different occasions.

“A total of 57 films will be showcased at the SCO Film Festival from SCO countries. In the Competition Section, 14 feature films are competing and will be screened and the Non-Competition section will showcase 43 films. A total of 14 films were nominated for the competition section,” the official stated.

The competition will open with a world premiere of an Indian movie because the SCO Film Festival can be held underneath the presidency of India. Also, 5 Indian traditional movies are slated to be showcased.

The Marathi movie Godavari directed by Nikhil Mahajan and Gujarati Film, The Last Film Show directed by Pan Nalin, has been nominated by India. The Russian movies Mom, I’m Alive!, directed by A Zairov, M Mamyrbekov and Paralympian, directed by Bairakimov Aldiyar, are nominated by Kazakhstan.

The Kyrgyz movies Akyrky Koch (The Road to Eden) directed by Bakyt Mukul, Dastan ZhaparUulu and Uysatylat (Home for Sale) directed by Taalaibek Kulmendeev are nominated from Kyrgyzstan.

The Italian and Chinese movies B for Busy by Yihui Shao and the Chinese movie Home Coming directed by Xiaozhi Rao have been nominated by China.

The Russian movies Don’t Bury Me Without Ivan, directed by Liubov Borisova Sakha and Podelniki (The Riot) directed by Evgeny Grigorev, have been nominated by Russia.
