Post-Resignation, Oli Addresses Protests, Denies Responsibility for Violence, and Criticizes Interim Government

After resigning due to Gen-Z protests, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has made his first statement, addressing the events. He refuted accusations of ordering the shooting of protestors. Oli, who resigned on September 9th following demonstrations against corruption and social media restrictions, stated that he did not order the shooting. He highlighted that the shots were fired from automatic weapons, which the police did not have, and called for an investigation. Oli expressed his sorrow over the fatalities during the demonstrations. Additionally, he criticized the interim government led by Sushila Karki, claiming its formation was illegitimate. Oli also demanded government security and expressed his intention to remain in the country to help rebuild it based on the constitution. The Home Ministry has issued a notice urging the public to maintain peace ahead of the elections scheduled for March 5, 2026, as announced by the President of Nepal.
