S Jaishankar Hails Anita Orban’s Rise in Hungary’s New Government
1 min readExternal Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s congratulations to Anita Orban on becoming Hungary’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister highlight India’s proactive diplomacy in Europe. Shared on X this Friday, the message from New Delhi underscores commitment to elevating bilateral and multilateral ties.
‘Looking forward to working together to further strengthen India-Hungary relations and the India-EU Strategic Partnership,’ Jaishankar stated. Orban, sworn in on May 13, is a prominent figure with legal and diplomatic expertise, born in July 1974.
She articulated her mission on X: to represent Hungarians with unwavering strength and clarity globally, while strengthening partnerships across Europe and the world. This aligns with the momentum from Peter Magyar’s ascent to Prime Ministership on May 9.
Tisza Party, led by Magyar, stunned observers by securing 141 seats in the 199-member parliament during the April 12 elections, ousting Viktor Orban’s Fidesz-KDNP coalition and securing a two-thirds majority. Magyar pledged transformative changes in the new assembly’s first sitting.
PM Modi was quick to felicitate this outcome on April 13 via X, praising the ‘deep friendship’ and ‘shared values’ between India and Hungary. He anticipated joint efforts to advance India-EU relations for collective well-being.
As Hungary navigates this political renaissance, India’s outreach to its new leaders could foster expanded collaboration in areas like renewable energy, defense, and cultural exchanges, reinforcing India’s footprint in Central Europe amid global uncertainties.
