‘Snakes in yard hissing’: Indian-origin MP in Canada on Khalistani posters

By India Today World Desk: Chandra Arya, an Indian-origin MP in Canada, has come ahead in robust criticism of some pro-Khalistani posters that depicted some Indian diplomats as “killers”. Condemning the provocative messaging, he warned that “snakes in our backyard are raising their heads and hissing.”

Arya, a Liberal Party politician who hails from Karnataka, condemned how Indian diplomats have been represented on the posters, and mentioned that the menace posed by Khalistan supporters in Canada is rising.

“Khalistanis in Canada continue to reach new low in abusing our Charter of Rights and Freedom by promoting violence and hate,” he mentioned in a tweet. Sharing one such poster, he wrote, “…we should note the snakes in our backyard are raising their heads and hissing. It is only a question of time when they bite to kill.”

The poster endorsed the ‘Khalistan Freedom Rally’ to be held on July 8. The poster known as India’s High Commissioner to Ottawa Sanjay Kumar Verma and Consul General in Toronto Apoorva Srivastava as “killers” of the Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

It sparked outrage throughout India, with the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar warning that ties between India and Canada could also be hit if Khalistani components got area.

He mentioned the Indian authorities had reached out to associate nations like Canada and the United Kingdom and requested them to not give area to Khalistani teams. He warned this is able to have an effect on relations between the nations.

Arya, the 59-year-old MP, additionally condemned a float in Brampton depicting the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The incident got here to mild final month, after the float was showcased as a part of a 5-km lengthy parade.
