Storm and heavy rain wreaked havoc in Afghanistan, 35 killed, many injured, property and crops destroyed

Kabul. Afghanistan has once again been hit by a natural disaster. 35 people have died due to storm and heavy rains in eastern Afghanistan. Sediqullah Qureshi, provincial director of the Information and Culture Department, said that many people have been injured in Nangarhar province. Property and crops have also suffered heavy damage in various parts of the province.

Sediqullah Qureshi said that women and children are among those killed and injured in the natural disaster. The dead include five members of the same family who lost their lives due to the collapse of the roof of a house in Surkh Road district. Four other members of the family were injured in the accident.

The head of the regional hospital in Nangarhar said that so far 207 injured have been brought to the provincial capital Jalalabad and surrounding districts for treatment. He said that dozens of locals reached the hospital to donate blood for the injured. Earlier, more than 300 people were killed and thousands of houses were destroyed in heavy rains in Afghanistan on 10 and 11 May. Most of these houses were in the northern Baglan province.
