Taiwan jolted by magnitude 6.6 earthquake
An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter Scale struck Taiwan on Wednesday.

Buildings shook in Taipei early on Wednesday morning as two earthquakes in fast succession, the strongest with a magnitude of 6.6, struck southeastern Taiwan, however there have been no fast experiences of harm.
The deepest had a depth of 30.6 km (19 miles) and the opposite one was 19.3 km deep. They may each be felt throughout Taiwan, with the epicenters in Hualien county – one simply offshore – and near town of Taitung, the climate bureau mentioned.
Hualien and Taitung are each mountainous, comparatively sparsely populated areas.
Taiwan lies close to the junction of two tectonic plates and is vulnerable to earthquakes.
More than 100 folks have been killed in a quake in southern Taiwan in 2016, whereas a 7.3 magnitude quake killed greater than 2,000 folks in 1999.
