President Donald Trump released a significant report addressing the issue of drug trafficking and production. The report outlined 23 countries that either produce or serve as major transit points for illegal drugs. This report, presented to Congress, is titled the Presidential Determination. Trump underscored the ongoing threat posed by the production and trafficking of illicit substances to the security of the United States and its citizens. The list includes countries like Afghanistan, Burma, China, India, and Pakistan from Asia. Also included are the Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. Trump specifically pointed out Afghanistan, Bolivia, Burma, Colombia, and Venezuela as nations failing to effectively combat the drug trade. He particularly criticized Afghanistan, where the opium and other narcotics trade persists despite existing prohibitions. The report directly accuses China of being the primary global source of the chemical precursors used in fentanyl and other synthetic drugs. Additionally, the report accuses China of a major role in the spread of methamphetamine and emerging dangerous drugs, like nitazenes. Trump urged the Chinese government to strengthen measures against chemical trafficking and prosecute those responsible. The U.S. State Department clarifies that a country’s inclusion in the list does not necessarily indicate a lack of cooperation, citing how geographical location, trade routes, and economic conditions can challenge governments in completely stopping drug trafficking. India, on the other hand, has taken strong action. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recently dismantled an international drug syndicate. The gang used digital platforms, drop shipping, and cryptocurrency to smuggle drugs to the United States, Australia, and Europe. The operation began with a routine vehicle check near the Bengali Market in Delhi. This local check led to the exposure and apprehension of the international drug racket, which was lauded by the United States. The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi expressed gratitude to the NCB, recognizing the substantial assistance provided by Indian agencies in protecting Americans from illegal drugs.
