US Republicans oust Democrat Omar from key House committee over Israel feedback

By Reuters: US House of Representatives Republicans on Thursday ousted Democrat Ilhan Omar from a high-profile committee over remarks broadly condemned as anti-semitic, two years after Democrats eliminated two Republicans from committee assignments.

The deeply divided House voted 218-211 alongside get together strains to take away Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee with Republicans citing the 2019 remarks for which she later apologised. One Republican voted “present.”

Shortly after the vote, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries made a countermove, saying that he intends to nominate Omar to a seat on the Budget Committee “where she will defend Democratic values against right-wing extremism.”

Republicans, who received a slim House majority in November’s election after years within the minority, mentioned they wished Omar, a third-term House member, off Foreign Affairs for statements that included a 2019 tweet which learn, “It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” suggesting that Israel’s supporters in US politics had been motivated by cash slightly than precept.
