A critical step in the Air India crash investigation involves sending the damaged black box to the US. The device, crucial for understanding the cause of the crash, was retrieved but found to be too damaged for data extraction in India. The NTSB will undertake the data recovery in their Washington lab, with findings reported back to the AAIB. The UK’s AAIB will also participate in the investigation given the involvement of British citizens. The crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff, resulted in a significant loss of life, including casualties on the ground.
