YouTube has unveiled a series of new artificial intelligence (AI)-driven features at its recent Made on YouTube event, aimed at enhancing the experience for creators. Shorts creators now have access to a new, free AI tool that can generate video backgrounds and clips with integrated sound. Furthermore, the platform is expanding its Playables on Live feature, allowing creators to engage with their audience through more than 75 games.

YouTube has teamed up with Google DeepMind to bring a customized version of the Veo 3 video generation AI model to YouTube Shorts. This integration enables creators to produce video backgrounds and video clips complete with audio. The tool is designed to generate 480p videos while maintaining a lower latency, and is available at no cost.

The new YouTube Shorts feature is currently accessible to creators based in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. To use it, creators should tap the create button, then click the “sparkle icon” located in the top-right corner. YouTube has plans to make the AI tool available in more regions soon.

Future developments for Shorts creators include the ability to convert still photos into videos using the Veo 3 AI model. Creators will also be able to apply styles like “pop art” or “origami,” and add objects, characters, or effects using text prompts. This feature is expected to launch in the coming months.

YouTube will also integrate the Google Veo 3 AI model into its Podcasts section. This will allow podcasters to create video clips and Shorts from entire episodes. For podcasts without video footage, the AI tool will create custom videos using the available audio files.

New features are also being introduced for live streaming, including Playables, which is now accessible to all creators. This enhances audience interaction and content monetization. Additional updates will allow creators to start vertical livestreams, and an AI-powered tool will help streamers create highlights or Shorts from their live sessions.

Key takeaways: significant AI features for Shorts, enhancements to YouTube Studio including Ask Studio, and AI tools for Podcast creators. Music fans will be able to pre-save albums and view release countdowns, while music artists will gain new ways to reward their top fans. Updates to brand deals and shopping will make brand collaborations easier.
