The death of singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away at the age of 52 during a scuba diving incident in Singapore, has led to an immense wave of grief in Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma released a poignant video to address the widespread sorrow and the public’s reaction to Garg’s death. The CM cited several reasons for Assam’s deep connection with the singer. These reasons included the impact of Garg’s music on the public, his bravery, his rebellious spirit, and his kind nature. The CM clarified that there was no single reason but a combination. Garg’s music touched emotions and reflected the diversity of Assam. He was a fearless individual, always outspoken about his opinions. Garg was also considered one of the most helpful and compassionate individuals. Garg was scheduled to perform at the North East Festival in Singapore. Following the tragic scuba diving accident, his body was transported back to India and given a state funeral. A three-day state mourning period was observed in Assam. Garg’s music transcended regional boundaries, with hits in several languages, including the popular Bollywood song ‘Ya Ali’.
