Sunday’s ceremonies in Meerut saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi flag off the much-awaited Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro, heralding a new era of swift connectivity in the Delhi-NCR belt.
Greeted by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary, the PM made his way to Shatabdi Nagar station for the flag-off, attended by enthusiastic locals and officials.
The highlight was the dedication of the 82-km Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, plus inaugurations of 5 km in Delhi (Sarai Kale Khan-New Ashok Nagar) and 21 km in UP (Meerut South-Modipuram).
PM Modi shared the metro ride with students and passengers to Meerut South, where he chatted amiably and viewed photos presented by two students, fostering a sense of shared achievement.
India’s pioneering RRTS, Namo Bharat, clocks 180 kmph, slashing journey times to Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut from Delhi.
Strategically placed Sarai Kale Khan integrates with major transport nodes like Nizamuddin station, Pink Line metro, ISBT, and Ring Road. In Meerut, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram stations are now operational.
This unified system blends rapid inter-city rail with urban metro, promising decongested roads, lower pollution, and a blueprint for future transit networks nationwide.
